Consumer demand for security and privacy practices in Canada far exceeds the private sector’s willingness to deliver. Toronto security experts find alarming lack of security and privacy concerns at Canadian SMEs and warn that the small business sector as a whole is missing significant opportunities. (PRWEB) February 21, 2005 -- Informatica Corporation (on the web: www.InformationSecurityCanada.com) president Claudiu Popa said: “fewer than 25% of the small businesses we spoke with practice common sense in their approach to security and privacy. This places them and their customers at considerable risk of data loss, unauthorized disclosure, non-compliance with government regulations, legal liability and most certainly a loss of business”. A survey of 75 companies found that only 20% took steps to secure Internet communications, mobile users, wireless systems and sensitive data. This presents a major disconnect with the more than two thirds of consumers that demand better security and privacy practices, accountability and assurance. The company has launched a new FlexSecure initiative to help businesses identify risk and opportunity areas and quickly resolve issues. Building on existing assessment methodologies, Informatica is offering small businesses – which represent 99% of all Canadian companies - an inexpensive option to secure their systems and their Web sites, regain control of their information assets and exploit a valuable growth opportunity. Informatica Security offers Canada’s most complete information security solutions and expertise since 1989, including FlexSecure audits, awareness seminars and on-site systems/security support.
